How Tall Do Peach Trees Grow?

    Size

    • Peach trees remain small and, left alone, will reach heights up to 15 feet, with a spreading crown--meaning that the tree grows wide as well as tall--according to the Virginia Tech Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation. However, most peach growers prune their trees.

    Pruning

    • The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension recommends pruning peach trees to keep them at a height of 9 to 10 feet. In addition to the benefits of pruning, this keeps the peaches they produce easily within reach.

    Benefits

    • Peach growers not only prune their trees to keep them smaller but also to strengthen the tree's structure, allowing it to hold larger quantities of peaches. Pruning opens up the tree so that light can penetrate, and more light means more and larger fruits. Branch length also affects fruit production, and long branches with many offshoots don't produce as well.
