    • 1). Identify the Ada Torch Flower by its long lasting tawny flower spikes. The spikes can be any shade of orange or yellow. The flowers grow on upright stems. The grass-like leaves are long and narrow. This plant grows up to 3 feet high and up to 2 feet wide. It blooms in late summer to early fall.

    • 2). Water the Ada Torch Flower enough to keep it from wilting. Deeply water when you notice the soil is starting to dry out, but do not let it wilt. Water enough to reach deeper roots.

    • 3). Fertilize the Ada Torch Flower with a water-soluble, quick release fertilizer every 2 weeks. You may also use an organic fertilizer such as fish emulsion. If you use an organic fertilizer, read the instructions on the package, as different brands have different ingredients and strengths.

    • 4). Watch for rhizactonia root and stem rot. Prevent these diseases by avoiding overwatering. A fungicide can also be used if changing the watering habits does not seem to help. Rhizoctonia is found in most soils and it enters the plant through the roots.

    • 5). Prevent pests such as thrips by controlling weeds. Remove infested plants. Thrips can be trapped using yellow sticky strips. A steady shower of water will usually wash them off the plant.
