How to ID Songs on a Mix

    • 1). Listen to the lyrics and remember them. The lyrics of a song will help you identify it later. There are hundreds of lyrics sites online and all of them are easily accessed via search engines. Type some of the lyrics into a search engine followed by the word "lyrics." The search results will display pages of song lyrics sites that have songs with those lyrics listed. These sites will always list the name of the song and the artist. If no results or too many results show up, try searching for different lyrics.

    • 2). Ask others. The simplest solution may be to ask those listening to the song what the lyrics are or to send the mix to friends (if it is on the computer) and see if they can identify it. Ask the DJ, as most DJs preselect the songs they will use in a mix. Many well-known DJs publish the playlists to their mixes on their websites.

    • 3). Use the Shazam application on the iPhone. Shazam is a free iPhone app that identifies the majority of music. Download the app, open it and hold the microphone on the iPhone toward the speaker. Shazam will listen to a sample of the music and tell the user who the artist is and what the name of the song is.
