    • 1). Organize game players. Buffalo can be played with as many players as possible or as few as two. All players do not have to be present at the start of the game and can join as they please.

    • 2). Review the rules with your players. Usually, Buffalo is played with the rule that no player can pick up a drink with the right hand. Variations of the game include having to pick an imaginary man off of the lip of your drink before taking a sip or not being able to use the first names of game players.

    • 3). Pass out drinks. Each player should have a drink. All players do not have to drink the same beverage, but must be drinking something at all times.

    • 4). Punish rule breakers. If someone uses his left hand during game play, instruct all other players to yell "Buffalo! Buffalo! Buffalo!" as loud as they can, drawing as much attention to the person as possible. The rule breaker must finish his drink as fast as possible and the other players should not stop yelling until the drink is completely finished.

    • 5). Play for as long as you like. Because there is no winner and no real object of the game, you can play Buffalo for as much or as little time as you want. It is one of the few drinking games that can be played while holding conversations, so the game usually lasts for the duration of the players' time at the bar.
