Journey Into Internet Marketing - Can I Really Make Money?
I am not a person who is looking for the next get rich quick scheme.
I am successful at my job, own my home, invest a little and save a lot.
I have traded options and played in the Forex market, owned a business with my wife for a while, but I am always thinking about creating alternate streams of income for my family's financial well being.
I decided that I might have a go at this whole internet marketing thing.
I was a total beginner to internet marketing and affiliate marketing a couple months ago.
All that is about to change.
Have you ever wondered why all the sites you visit have banner ads and words with links embedded in them.
The simple answer is that people use these links to generate revenue.
Every time that someone clicks on one of these links and then purchases the product or service the referring site gets a cut of the action.
I always wondered how much people really make from this strategy.
So I decided to do research and found that people are making quite a bit of money with many people making a really good living off of this strategy.
I began to think about this more and more.
I had a lot of questions such as;
- How hard would it be to get started?
- Could a beginner do it?
- Could I replicate the same results?
- It must be Passive Income
- It can't take more than 10 hours per week
- I could do it with little start up capital
- I wanted to be passionate about it
Check The very nature of affiliate marketing is to set up as passive income.
You work to build a site that provides valuable content to build traffic.
Through traffic generation and embedded links and banner ads you generate income while you sleep, vacation or work your day job.
It can't take more than 10 hours per week...
Yes For the beginner like me, I knew that I would have to invest more than 10 hours a week, but once I learned the tools of the trade I felt that I could do in about 10 hours a week.
Going into it, I thought that I might be spending about 20 hours of week reading, researching and teaching myself.
As a total newbie, I would have to start at ground zero learning how to buy a domain name, keyword research development, getting hosting, building a site and generating traffic.
I could do it with little start up capital...
Most Definitely From the research I did I knew that I could get into this for less than $100 USD.
Buying a domain name and setting up hosting would be very cheap.
Building a site could be more costly if I outsourced it, but if I could build a site on my own the cost would be zero.
I had built exactly one site a few years ago.
It was ugly and did not work all that well but I thought a lot had changed with the technology and I would not have to "program" this one.
I did question the opportunity cost of investing a lot of time which I could be using to make some money other ways but I decided not to count this for now.
I wanted to be passionate about it...
Not So Sure Questions raced through my mind about how I could be passionate about a website.
I knew that I liked to help people, I like making money, saving and investing it.
Plus, I have a lot of hobbies, so I figured that I could find something that I could do and really get into it.
What I decided to do...
Well, I decided to test the affiliate strategy.
I settled upon building a site in WordPress which seemed easy enough to use and best of all it was free.
There are so many tutorials out there that I figured would help with my learning curve.
I researched how to buy a domain, find web hosting and build a site all for about $50.
I still didn't have a subject that I would be passionate about.
I thought a lot about this.
I could build a site on traveling which I like to do or maybe I could build a site around camping.
As I was driving to work, I got the idea to show the world about a beginner's experience on entering the internet marketing world.
I felt that I could help people by taking them step by step through what I was learning.
I would show them my progress, my mistakes, the amount of time I was spending and most important if I would be able to make any sort of revenue.
The Results So Far..
...
I have been at this a couple of weeks with success.
I have researched the key words, bought a domain, set up web hosting and built a site.
All this cost me about $62.
This was higher than my estimate of $50, but that was because I made a mistake and bought a domain that I didn't want.
I detailed the mistake on my site and what I did to correct it.
I really began online about a week ago.
I have been getting some traffic and that seems to be building.
My page rank is climbing and I have links and banners starting to be clicked.
I haven't made money this first week but I think that is going to change.
