    Evaluating Your Property

    • 1). Take note of your home's appearance from the street, noting the condition of plants, grass, walkways and exterior paint.

    • 2). Circle the property, noting the condition of the backyard, including the fence and any dead trees.

    • 3). Enter through the front door, and evaluate the cleanliness and orderliness of the entryway. Write down potential improvements. Continue through the rest of the home.

    • 4). Visit the attic, basement and garage, noting clutter and dirt.

    Staging the Property

    • 1). Clean debris and trim shrubs and plants so that windows, doors and walkways are clear and easy to pass.

    • 2). Perform simple repairs to walkways and steps; paint the front door.

    • 3). Eliminate clutter throughout the home. Keep counter tops, shelves and closets orderly.

    • 4). Check your walls for dirt and chipped paint; wash and touch up as needed.

    • 5). Organize and clear out the attic, basement and garage.

    • 6). Make sure the dishes are washed and beds are made; check the bathrooms to verify cleanliness.
