Bible Lesson Plans for the Youth
- The object is to learn about the acceptance Jesus showed all people, and how he can make a difference in their lives. The story of Zacchaeus teaches the way that Jesus accepted, forgave and loved outcasts and sinners. Before beginning, tape a picture of Jesus in the bottom of a box.
Tell the class that there is something great inside the box. Make it hard to see inside by putting it up high. Talk about how it feels not to be able to see. Move the box so they can see inside. Tell the class that they will learn about someone else who could not see Jesus.
Read Luke 19: 2-10. After the story discuss how Zacchaeus got to see Jesus and what kind of person he was at first. Talk about why he didn't have any friends, what Jesus did for him and how he changed. - We are to have fear of the Lord, but not live in fear of him. The object is to teach about the two kinds of fear, fearing the Lord and fear as in being afraid. Print the Yare fear and Pachad fear picture frames in the Resources section for each student.
Read the scriptures listed on each frame. Have the children draw with crayons an illustration representing what each means. Explain that Yare fear means to have awe or respect for God and that Pachad fear is to be scared. Ask the group if they know what honor means. Tell them that to honor is to show respect and that fearing the Lord is standing in awe or honoring him. - The object is how we are always to do our best for God. Read the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14-30. Explain how the story is an example of doing your best for God.
For this skit, have a student draw a picture on white paper. Tell him he can only answer with gestures. Have him enter looking sad and holding the picture. You will ask why he is sad and he will point to the picture. When you tell him it looks good, he will shake his head no. After asking if he did his best he will shake his head yes. Then tell him that all that matters to God is that we do our best and that is all he asks. Have him leave looking happy.
Read Corinthians 1:21. Give the example that when Jesus died for our sins that he gave his best when he died on the cross. - The object is to show how God keeps us safe in many ways. You will pour a small amount of salt in the middle a plate. Then add a very small amount of pepper to the salt. Rub a plastic spoon over clothing to create static. Wave the spoon over the mound and the pepper will attach to the spoon.
Read Psalms 121:7. Discuss how we can always trust God to protect us. Talk about how the salt was the world and the pepper was evil. Ask how to make the evil go away. Talk about the spoon drawing the pepper away. It may not seem possible to us but God can do anything.
