How to Transfer Data From a G4 to an iMac
- 1). Plug one end of the FireWire cable into a FireWire port on the Mac G4. Plug the other end of the FireWire cable into a FireWire port on the iMac. Turn on the iMac. Wait for the desktop to appear on the screen.
- 2). Press and hold down the “T” key on the Mac G4’s keyboard. Turn on the Mac G4. Release the key when the “FireWire” logo appears on the monitor attached to the Mac G4.
- 3). Double-click on the icon of the Mac G4’s hard drive that is on the desktop of the iMac. Select a data file from inside of the window that has opened on the desktop. Drag the data file to the desktop.
- 4). Wait as a copy progress bar appears, fills in from left to right and then disappears. Drag the icon of the Mac G4’s hard drive to the Trash. Wait for the icon of the Mac G4’s hard drive to disappear.
- 5). Press and hold down the Mac G4’s power button until the computer turns off. Remove the FireWire cable from the iMac and from the Mac G4.
- 1). Plug the USB external hard drive’s cable into a USB port on the Mac G4. Wait for the icon of the USB external hard drive to appear on the desktop.
- 2). Drag a data file from the Mac G4’s hard drive onto the icon of the USB external hard drive. Wait as a copy progress bar appears, fills in from left to right and then disappears.
- 3). Drag the icon of the USB external hard drive to the Trash. Remove the USB cable from the USB port of the Mac G4.
- 4). Plug the USB external hard drive’s cable into a USB port on the iMac. Wait for the icon of the USB external hard drive to appear on the desktop.
- 5). Double-click on the icon of the USB external hard drive that is on the desktop of the iMac. Select the data file from inside of the window that has opened on the desktop. Drag the data file to the desktop.
- 6). Wait as a copy progress bar appears, fills in from left to right and then disappears. Drag the icon of the USB external hard drive to the Trash. Remove the USB cable from the USB port on the iMac.
- 1). Plug a USB flash drive into a USB port on the Mac G4. Wait for the icon of the USB flash drive to appear on the desktop.
- 2). Drag the data file that you want to put on the iMac onto the USB flash drive’s icon. Wait as a copy progress bar appears, fills in from left to right and then disappears.
- 3). Drag the USB flash drive’s icon to the Trash. Remove the USB flash drive from the USB port of the Mac G4.
- 4). Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on the iMac. Wait for the icon of the USB flash drive to appear on the desktop.
- 5). Double-click on the icon of the USB flash drive to open its window. Drag the data file from inside the window onto the desktop.
- 6). Wait as a copy progress bar appears, fills in from left to right and then disappears. Drag the USB flash drive’s icon to the Trash. Remove the USB flash drive from the USB port of the iMac.
