How to Use Antique Wood Stoves
- 1). Pull the lever to open the damper in the back of the stove that attaches to the vent.
- 2). Open the firebox door, which is usually the largest door in the base of the stove. Place the kindling in the stove. Arrange about 2 to 3 inches of kindling in a crisscross pattern
- 3). Set two to three pieces of hardwood logs on top of the kindling. Light the match and hold it up to the kindling. Once the kindling catches the logs, you can shut the stove’s door.
- 4). Place pots on the stove once it starts to heat up. You can also bake food if there are ovens attached to the sides of the firebox.
- 5). Let the fire burn out on its own or add more wood to sustain it. Place the wood on top of the ashes as the old wood burns down. Only add two to three pieces of wood at a time, to keep the stove from burning too hot.
