  There are many types of tires available for a wide range of vehicles. Basic tire types include winter, truck and car tires. Certain tires work best on certain types of vehicles. Others work better during different times of the year and in different weather conditions. Vehicle owners should know what type of tires are currently on their vehicle, and what types are recommended by the manufacturer.
  
  

Car Tires

• Most cars use all-season tires, which are available in sizes to fit cars of all models and sizes. All-season tires facilitate traction all year round, as well as a longer tread wear. These are standard tires for day-to-day driving. Performance all-season tires, on the other hand, are rated higher for speed and are known for better braking and handling. These tires also have a lower profile, and are typically used on sportier cars. Ultra-performance tires are used mainly for sporty and upscale vehicles; these tires do well in extreme weather conditions.
  
  

Truck Tires

• Trucks, large sport-utility vehicles and other similar-sized vehicles will often need special tires. Trucks require tires that can accommodate their dynamics, size and purpose for use. Because of the special features of truck tires, many automobile manufacturers recommend continuing to use the same type of tires that originally came with the vehicle. You can also switch from all-terrain to all-season tires if desired for most weather conditions. All-terrain tires offer more traction for off-road use.
  
  

Winter Tires

• Winter tires are weather-specific tires for use in icy or snowy conditions. These tires have specially designed treads keep their grip in snow and ice. The rubber in the tires is also made to stay flexible even at extremely low temperatures. These tires sometimes wear more quickly than others, and they don't always grip as well on clear roads. Performance winter tires are another option for extreme weather; these offer not only better grip but also better handling.
