How to Restore Lost Files After a Nondestructive Recovery
- 1). Download a file recovery program. Go to CNet.com and click the "Downloads" tab located under the search bar. Click the "Windows" tab and type "file recovery" in the search bar, followed by hitting the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
- 2). Scroll down and click the "File Scavenger Data Recovery Utility" link. Click the "Download Now" button and save the program to your desktop. Double-click the file once the download is complete, and run the installation wizard. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
- 3). Open the program. Click "Start," "All Programs" and "File Scavenger" to run the program. Type the lost or deleted file name in the "Search for" search bar. Select which drive to search by clicking the "Look in:" search bar.
- 4). Check the box next to the preferred mode. "Quick" and "Long" are the options, which can take from 30 minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the drive.
- 5). Check the box next to file in search results, and click the "Step 2: Recover" tab. Follow the onscreen instructions to recover files.
