September Wedding Centerpiece Ideas
- Hollow out vibrantly colored gourds and pumpkins instead of using traditional vessels like vases or bowls. Accent the gourds with cloves and cinnamon sticks for an organic centerpiece, or decorate with crystals or glitter to accessorize a more modern style. Place clusters of small gourds on round swaths of burlap and intersperse with bronze-colored calla lilies, stargazer lilies or sunflowers.
- Build miniature hay bales or haystacks using raffia, twine and fresh or artificial hay. Artificial hay may be preferable to prevent allergic reactions in guests. Accent with ornamental berries and crab apples on plant picks and include raffia or glitter tinges in shades of bronze and gold. For taller towers of hay, arrange smaller blossoms like black-eyed Susans or use small sunflowers.
- Use bushel baskets in a variety of sizes to create smaller accents around a large centerpiece or in clusters for a lower centerpiece to facilitate conversation. Decorate the baskets with gingham ribbon or plaid ribbon in colors from the wedding palette. Add artificial blossoms to the outside of the baskets to complement live blossoms inside. Fill other baskets with bundles of fragrant cinnamon sticks, roasted hazelnuts and chestnuts, or clove-scented pine cones.
- Fill bud vases with clusters of dried or artificial leaves. Silk artificial leaves can be dyed or painted a variety of colors, as can wooden, paper or papier-mache leaves. Fresh leaves featuring the changing colors of the season may be more difficult to find but can be dazzling natural centerpieces. Tie satin ribbon around the neck of a slim vase or bud vase and scatter artificial leaves around the base of the vessel.
