    • Florida had the second-highest number of crime analysts by state in 2010, with an estimated 1,470 of the nation's approximately 12,390 forensic science workers. California ranked first, with 1,710 crime analysts. The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area had the fourth-highest employment level for crime analysts by U.S. metropolitan area, behind Phoenix, Chicago and Houston. Florida also ranked third for the number of crime analysts per capita, behind Arizona and Maryland.

    Average Salary

    • Florida crime analysts had an average salary of $22.73 per hour as of May 2010, or $47,270 per year, advises the bureau. That was about 14 percent lower than the nationwide average salary for this occupation of $26.46 per hour.

    Salary Range

    • The middle 50 percent of Florida crime analysts on the pay scale were making $16.84 to $27.30 per hour in 2010, or $35,030 to $56,780 per year. The bottom 10 percent had pay of $13.73 per hour and less, and the top 10 percent were earning $34.15 per hour and higher, or $71,030 per year and more.

    Regions

    • The highest-paying region for crime analysts in Florida in 2010 was the greater Miami-Fort Lauderdale area, where their average salary was $28.93 per hour, or $60,180 per year. The bureau includes Fort Lauderdale in another metro area, the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach region, and the average pay for crime analysts there was $27.15 per hour. The lowest average salary for Florida crime analysts was in the Orlando-Kissimmee area, at $21.04 per hour, or $43,760 per year. The bureau provides salary data for crime analysts in two other regions in Florida. Their average pay in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area was $23.47 per hour and in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Boynton Beach area it was $26.38 per hour.
