The Best Way to Make a Nutritious Salad
Ever wonder what the best way to make a salad is? Eating salads on a regular basis is a great way of adding to your nutrition and health.
But what constitutes a good salad? Different people come up with different ideas when they hear the word salad.
When some people want to make a salad they think, what shall I put in it? Hmmm! I know let's start with some cooked beans, maybe a can of three bean mix, then some canned cooked beetroot, we've got some leftover cooked rice or pasta in the fridge which will help, then there's a can of corn, and how about some pickled onions and some processed gherkins, plus we could use a can of cooked tuna or there's some left over baked lamb in the fridge and don't forget some grated cheese.
That will make a great salad, or will it? Is that the best way to make a salad? I think there is a better way.
Having a salad as a whole meal or part of a meal is a great way to add raw plant based foods to your daily diet.
A salad provides you with an ideal opportunity to add excellent nutrition, enzymes and alkaline forming foods to your day, and increase the percentage of these types of foods in your daily routine.
Salads can be used as a side dish, sandwich, wrap, in pocket bread, on toast (hey don't knock it till you try it!) on an omelet base, or as an all sorts mix in a bowl.
What about trying a number of different mixtures of salads (say five), of two or three main ingredients each served on the one plate producing a good mixture of tastes and nutrition.
Some veggies are well suited to grating, a julienne cutter or a spiral cutter, others are best chopped or sliced.
Be creative and decorative; make your salads look good with different cutting techniques and colors.
Also, work with flavors - salty, sweet, sour and bitter.
If you are serving up a plate with five different salad mixes on it, try and have different flavors dominating the different mixes.
Don't be afraid to diversify.
Include all sorts of fruits e.
g.
mandarins, mango, banana etc.
and seeds like sesame, sunflower, pepitas etc.
Different textures are also important - smooth, soft, crisp and crunchy.
A number of herbs and spices can also be used with great effect but be careful not to overdo it, as some herbs and spices will easily do more than you want them to.
And then there are things like garlic, ginger and chilies, great in the right place in the right quantity.
Raw Salads can do wonders for your health.
Give them a try.
