Many women who wish to improve the shape and firmness of their breasts due to nursing or weight loss may benefit from a trip to the gym instead of the plastic surgeon's office. There are a number of exercises that women can do that are designed to improve the appearance and tone of their breasts without the risk or expense of cosmetic surgery. - Women who are not satisfied with the size of their breasts can benefit from an exercise that improves the strength of the muscles located below the breasts. The exercise, which requires no special equipment and can be done in the privacy of your own home, may lead to increased breast size and enhanced shape. To perform the exercise, lie flat on your stomach while stretching out your toes. While bending your elbows and placing the palms of your hands flat on the floor, slowly lift up your upper body making sure that your palms are in line with your shoulders. Hold the stretch for at least 15 seconds and then relax. Repeat the exercise 10 times per day until desired results are achieved.
- Another common concern that women face regarding the feel and appearance of their breasts is a lack of firmness. This can be caused by a number of reasons including breast feeding, weight loss or weight gain, which causes the tissue of the breasts to stretch, reducing firmness. An exercise that helps increase the tone of the muscle and tissue surrounding the breasts is a modified push up, which does not require the use of any special equipment. To perform the exercise, lie on your stomach with your palms flat on the floor next to your upper arms. While crossing your ankles, bend your knees while simultaneously lifting your upper body by pushing up onto your arms. Be sure that when lifting, your head and body remain level, and do not arch your back. Slowly lower your body back to the floor and repeat the exercise in three sets of 10 repetitions, taking a momentary break in between sets if needed. Perform daily.
- Sagging of the breasts, much like other forms of loss of firmness to breast tissue, can be caused by breast feeding, weight changes or aging. By strengthening the muscles under and beside the breasts, women may notice an increase in the lift and tone of their breasts. Bicep curls can help to accomplish this improvement in tone and can be done anywhere, with the use of a simple bath towel. To perform the exercise, stand up straight and hold a bath towel in front of you at both ends with your arms held firmly at shoulder level. Pull at each end of the towel at the same time in short, even tugs. If you are performing the exercise correctly, there should be resistance from both ends. Continue the exercise in 3 sets of one-minute intervals, trying not to lower your arms in the process. Repeat the exercise daily.
