How to Make a Graduated Strand Necklace

    • 1). Arrange the beads on the beading board or towel in a line for each strand. Play around with different combinations and patterns. For a symmetrical look, start in the center and work your way out.

    • 2). Make each line of beads progressively longer than the last. Try to keep the increase in length consistent.

    • 3). Cut a piece of beading wire with wire cutters or strong scissors to a length of about one foot longer than the length of the beads in a strand.

    • 4). Attach the beading wire to the clasp by sliding a crimp bead onto the wire, then slipping the end of the wire through the clasp and looping it back over and into the crimp bead. Using crimping pliers, squeeze the crimp bead shut. The bead should be flat and should hold the wire securely to the clasp.

    • 5). String the beads onto the wire. After the last bead, add another crimp bead and then the other clasp. Be sure to use the part of the clasp that corresponds to the clasp at the other end of the strand. Loop the wire back through the crimp bead and squeeze it shut with the crimping pliers.

    • 6). Repeat steps 3-5 for the remaining strands before moving on to the last step.

    • 7). Finish the graduated strand necklace by clipping off any excess wire with the wire cutters or strong scissors.
