    • 1). Fill light-colored pots ¾ full with organic potting soil. Choose containers at least 15 inches in diameter, with depths of at least 1 foot. Set the pots on saucers to collect excess water.

    • 2). Remove the grapevine plants from their nursery containers and plant one grapevine plant in the center of each pot. Make sure that the root graft (transition point where roots and stem meet) is above the soil line after planting.

    • 3). Push a stake into the soil behind the plant. Choose a stake that is at least 18 inches in length for the climbing grapevines. Attach the grapevines to their designated stakes using rubber cording, which will not damage the wood of the stem.

    • 4). Moisten the soil generously after planting. Allow the water to flow through the soil and out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the pots. Maintain moist soil at all times, watering every one to three days.

    • 5). Place the grapevines in an area that receives bright, indirect sunlight. Turn the pots weekly, so that all of the foliage receives equal amounts of sunlight. Move the pots outdoors on warm sunny days, bringing them in on cool evenings.
