How to Feed Mango Trees
- 1). Fertilize a newly planted mango tree after new growth appears. Broadcast 1/2 cup of a 21-0-0 fertilizer around the base of the tree monthly through September. Irrigate the area thoroughly.
- 2). Increase the amount of fertilizer when the mango tree enters its second growing season. Feed it 1 cup of a 21-0-0 formula once a month. Water the tree deeply after feeding it. Cease fertilization in September. The following year, give your mango tree 2 cups of fertilizer, following the same schedule as in the previous two years.
- 3). Measure in inches the trunk diameter of your 4-year-old mango tree in February. The diameter of the trunk in inches is the same as the number of cups of 21-0-0 fertilizer your tree needs. Divide the amount by three. Apply 1/3 of the fertilizer each in February, May and August. Repeat this procedure the following years. Always irrigate your mango tree after fertilization.
