    • 1). Mix a brush killer containing glyphosate according to the label directions for a 5 percent solution. Add a surfactant to the solution for better coverage. Put the mixture into a backpack or pump sprayer for immediate use after trimming the plant. Choose a warm day with no wind or chance of rain.

    • 2). Cut back large areas of vinca with a brush cutter or string weed trimmer when temperatures are between 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Using these tools helps cut through the waxy coating that prohibits weedkillers from penetrating the plant. Spray the remaining plant with the prepared glyphosate weedkiller.

    • 3). Loosen the roots of the blue vinca with a turning fork after the weedkiller has had time to work, or if you are avoiding chemical controls. Using a turning fork leaves fewer nodes to resprout because it doesn't cut through the stems. Pull the vines from the ground and place into plastic bags for disposal. Do not send vines to the landfill without bagging, as they could generate roots and begin growing again.

    • 4). Rake the area thoroughly and remove all remaining nodes. Pull and remove any sprouts as they appear. Covering the area with a heavy-duty weed block cloth can help keep stragglers down.
