How to Take Get Great Photos of Children

When taking pictures of infants it's best to take their pictures when they are asleep.
Use natural light and try to avoid flash if possible.
Try and keep the shot tight and lessen the need for cropping.
For shots when infants are awake it's best to have another person in image, Try and find someone to interact with the child and if you have to you can crop out that person or whatever they had to use to distract the infant.

Usually toddlers take much better shots when they don't know your taking their shot.
I think candid shots are best to use when shooting this age range.
It's best to keep your camera handy and take any shot the catches your eye without them noticing.
Remember your child doesn't have to be looking directly into the camera to take a great photo.
Don't try and pose a toddler and expect them to take great photos.
If you do the chances of more than one shot is not probable 3.
Children ages 5 are really good at sitting for photos.
If your going to dress them up don't try and put them in an outfit that they really aren't thrilled with.
Chances are it will show up in the pictures as a very unhappy child.
What ever you do don't scare them and try and use a toy or something that will make them laugh.
Again whatever you do don't scare them.
Natural light again works best with children in this age group.

I usually try and use dress up with older children.
They seem to enjoy this and it shows in the pictures.
This age group isn't always easy to get them to give you a great smile.
Usually, a hey look over here or say cheese is going to get you a cheesy fake smile.
We all learned at an early age to give the smile mom or dad wanted to get us through the pictures.
You have to let your creative side out and try and be a little funny.
Most boys in this age don't like you calling them cute and trying to pull on their clothes and fix their hair.
Let it be natural and you'll get a better shot.
Sometimes doing the opposite can get you the picture your looking for.
An unhappy subject at any age will get you a picture that will reflect that unhappiness! These tips can be used for professional photographer's or for the amateur taking shots.
Ultimately, your going to get a good picture if you have a happy subject.
