One way to add some interest to your relationship is to work on adding spontaneous activities.

Even the smallest acts of spontaneity can add enough variety to help get you out of the daily grind.
If you tend to eat out on Fridays, for example, try a new restaurant or change your minds at the last minute and order in.
If you want to surprise your partner, don't tell him or her that you're trying to add some spontaneity into your lives.
When the moment strikes, suggest something new or unexpected, and see what kind of reaction you get.
Your partner may be very pleased with the turn of events.
For those who are really stuck in a rut, consider talking about adding more spontaneity into the relationship before springing it on a partner.
This may be a better way to ease out of current patterns.
Couples with children can add spontaneous activities as well.
Consider going on a short family trip, eating out, or any other kid-friendly activity.
This way you can still add some unexpected activities to your lives as a couple, and the kids will love the change as well.
While it may seem counter-intuitive to "plan" spontaneous actions, planning to "unplan" can help you both think of creative ways to add some interest to the relationship.
Talking about it ahead of time can be useful in that you're both prepared.
