Stiff Neck Remedies - What to Do For a Stiff Neck

No stiff neck remedies are as quick and effective as traditional Chinese self-massage and skin scraping.
Anyone can learn how to do these techniques on themselves and others, as Chinese people have done for at least 2000 years.
How do I know this? I was an acupuncturist in Australia for 10 years and I treated many, many people for neck pain.
Some people had a simple case of stiff neck over 1 or 2 days from sleeping the wrong way or from work or sports.
Others had chronic stiff neck of months, even years, duration from bad posture, over use, stress and other factors.
Acupuncture is certainly one of the best stiff neck remedies but you need a professional to do it and it can be costly at $50-$100 per treatment.
Self-massage and skin scraping also stop neck pain but the advantage they have over acupuncture is you can use them to treat yourself at no cost.
I have used self-massage and skin scraping twice on myself to stop severe neck pain from surfing.
My neck was so stiff I couldn't drive home and I had to turn my whole body to look at anything.
One session of skin scraping and 2 self-massage sessions stopped the pain completely.
Self-massage stops stiff neck by loosening tight, sore muscles and by improving blood circulation in the area.
Skin scraping stops neck pain the same way but instead of using your hands, as in self-massage, you use the smooth, rounded edge of a Chinese soup spoon to scrape the skin and muscles of the neck and upper back.
Skin scraping may sound painful, even ridiculous to some people, but it is a very well known home remedy for stiff neck in China and other Asian countries.
Other objects can also be used to scrape the skin.
My favorite is the smooth, rounded edge of the lid of a Tiger Balm jar.
Tiger Balm is famous for all kinds of aches and pains.
I usually put some on the skin to lubricate it before scraping and to help stop pain.
