    • 1). Contact the licensure board of your state and city to verify what licenses you need for the services you perform. Each state and most cities vary on their license requirements. Find information on the required examination as well, such as application deadlines, schedule and locations of exam.

    • 2). Meet the requirements of your state. Most states require a certain number of years of education and/or experience as a professional landscaper; some require a surety bond or some form of surety.

    • 3). Register for and take the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.) or the required exam for your position in your state.

    • 4). Pay the fee associated with the application and license.
