Over the counter medications and sleep aids contain sedating antihistamines.
But doctors recommend these for occasional use at best.
These medications stay in your system, and can make you feel drowsy the next day, you might even feel better the next day if you skip the pill and just sleep less.
Then a very doubtful thing to do is use melatonin, although it helps reset the body clock, for those that works shifts and also people who suffer from jet lag.
Studies have not proved that melatonin is effective for insomnia.
It would also be great if you just had to sniff lavender or jasmine to fall asleep, but with aromatherapy there is no real hard evidence to show it works for insomnia.
What really works if you snore? Tennis balls in a sock on your back, as people tend to snore more when they are sleeping on their back.
To stay sleeping on your side, place a tennis ball in a sock, and pin it to your pajamas right between your shoulder blades.
When you do end up on your back, the tennis ball with prompt you to roll onto your side without waking you up.
Some tips that is worth a try for snoring.
Snore reduction pillows that position your head and neck to keep your airways open.
Pillows with this design may reduce snoring that is not caused by sleep apnoea.
Nasal strips hold open and thus widen the nasal passage, helping you breathe through your nose at night.
But this only seems to work if you had a narrowed nasal passage to begin with.
Then the doubtful cure for snoring is anti-snoring sprays.
These seem to be useful for some, but these oil-based sprays could potentially get into your lungs, and then it can cause a number of serious problems for you.
Some of the above really works, some are worth a try, never know who it might work wonders for, and some just plain doubtful.
