How to Troubleshoot an iPod Transfer to a PC
- 1). Ensure you are connecting the iPod to the same computer you normally connect to. Each iPod can only be registered on a single computer, and other PCs may not recognize it.
- 2). Restart your computer with your iPod plugged into the iPod USB transfer cable. Sometimes simply rebooting the PC can get iTunes to recognize the iPod.
- 3). Plug the iPod USB transfer cable into a different port on your PC. Do not connect the iPod to a USB port on a keyboard or monitor, and make sure you are using a high-speed USB 2.0 port. Also, connect the iPod directly to the desktop or laptop machine and not a USB hub.
- 4). Unplug all USB peripherals from your computer and then connect only the iPod USB transfer cable.
- 5). Update your computer's operating system and the iTunes software. Use the "Windows Update" tool in the Control Panel to check for operating system updates and the "Apple Software Update" program to check for iTunes updates.
- 6). Try connecting the iPod to your PC using a different iPod USB transfer cable. If this works, then the originally cable is malfunctioning.
- 7). Contact Apple Repair Services or go to an Apple store if your computer will still not recognize the device.
