Change is a Small Business Certainty - Embrace It!

103 2
Change is something that any small business is always certain about.
It is always there.
Change can either be dreaded or embraced by the small business.
The choice is up to you the small business owner.
The outcome of how this change is approached can have a major impact on your business.
One often hears the old expression that "change is as good as a vacation".
This is true of the small business too.
If one can embrace change and if the business is nimble enough, the latest technologies, the latest goods that are hot right now can easily be incorporated into the business and move the business forwards.
The small business owner must be prepared for change to occur.
He will nearly always not know what this change will be, or the form that it may take.
What he must be able to do is be in the position to wrap his head around the change and if need be, reposition his business to take advantage of the change that is coming.
One might turn around and say, how the heck can I do this? I have a small business and it may seem unreasonable to expect me to make drastic changes to my business.
I would counter this argument by saying that this is not true.
What does the business do when the government changes tax laws or the local authorities make changes to local by laws.
What do you do then? Curl up and die? Close up shop? In almost all cases, the small business adapts and quickly too.
He has no choice, but to make the necessary changes and in the time that the authorities determine too.
So why not treat change in the same light.
The small business owner should have the mindset that change will occur, and in fact he should go looking for the change itself.
Change is about growth and today adapting to changing fast paced conditions is almost a necessity.
Embrace change, rather than try fight it.
In the long run trying to fight change and trying to keep doing what has worked for so long has led to the downfall of many of the largest businesses.
Take a look at the US auto industry for a good example of not embracing change and adapting to it and the result of not making the necessary changes.
Perhaps if they had adapted to change in time, the US auto industry may have been a lot stronger than it is today? You can either be left behind or ride the wave.
