How to Prevent Rust on Metal Nails
- 1). Don your goggles and pour the pint of Xylene into the metal bucket.
- 2). Drop the metal nails into the Xylene filled metal bucket. Agitate the bucket to remove the manufacturing oils from the surface of the metal nails.
- 3). Pour the Xylene back into its container, dump the nails onto a clean rag and allow the metal nails to dry for two to three hours.
- 4). Transfer the dry metal nails to another clean rag. The nails need to lay in a single row, with 1/8-inch in between each nail.
- 5). Shake the can of aerosol cold galvanizing spray for the time specified on the application instruction located on the back of the can.
- 6). Spray a light coating of cold galvanizing to the surface of the metal nails, allow the cold galvanizing to cure for 30 minutes, rotate the nails and spray the other side of the metal nails.
- 7). Wait at least 12 hours and repeat step six to complete the application of the cold galvanizing.
- 8). Install the galvanized protected metal nails after they have cured for at least 24 hours.
