How to travel to Stansted Airport
- 1). Decide on the method of transport most convenient to you, based on factors such as how much you are prepared to spend, what time your flight is, how much luggage you have and where the start point of your journey is. Stansted is covered by bus, coach and rail links from London and nationwide, has a rank for taxi drop-off and is served by the M11 motorway for driving.
- 2). If departing from London the cheapest way to travel is by bus. There are fast, frequent bus services from various points in central London including Victoria, Baker Street and Kings Cross stations. Most run every 15-30 minutes with a journey time of between 1 hour and 100 minutes. The low cost airline easyJet operates a 24 hour bus link from Baker Street to Stansted Airport, with tickets available online or from the driver on the day of travel. You don’t need to be flying on an easyJet flight to use this service.
- 3). Frequent coach services leave for Stansted from various towns and cities throughout the Midlands and south of England. The Stansted Airport website features a full list of coach services to the airport with direct links to the relevant coach operator. It also lists bus services that cover the local area within Essex.
- 4). The fastest way between London and Stansted Airport is to take the Stansted Express from Liverpool Street station in East London. It runs every 15 minutes throughout the day from early morning until approximately midnight and takes about 45 minutes. Tickets should be bought before you board the train. This can be done in advance online or at the ticket office or from the automated machines at Liverpool Street. The machines take cash, credit and UK debit cards.
- 5). Driving to Stansted is easy as the airport is located within minutes of junctions 8 and 8a on the M11. The M11 is a short motorway that links the North Circular in London to the A14 west of Cambridge. It intersects with the M25 at junction 6 and mostly runs for three lanes. There is a long stay car park at the airport which can be booked in advance. Another, short stay, car park is primarily designed for stays of less than 24 hours.
- 6). Take a taxi for the most comfortable way to travel to Stansted Airport. Checker Cars operate within the airport and a journey to the airport can also be arranged. Book in advance and either pay by credit or debit card at the time of booking or to the driver on the day. Addison Lee is London’s largest private minicab company with a fleet that includes luxury Mercedes and BMWs and six seat vehicles. You can arrange a door-to-door airport transfer with quotes given in advance. Typically, a taxi between central London and Stansted in July 2010 was quoted as costing between £75-£100.
