    • 1). Find a Tibetan center close to you. Start attending events and surrounding yourself with the Tibetan Buddhist teachings. The Tibet Center in New York City is a good resource, as are Buddhist centers, temples and bookstores in your area. The teachings of a Tibetan Buddhist lama, rinpoche or scholar are often features of Buddhist centers that are useful for learning Tibetan prayers.

    • 2). Take a yoga class in which the participants chant. Some yoga schools, particularly Jivamukti yoga, begin classes with Tibetan Buddhist teachings. The mantras chanted in class are often Tibetan prayers.

    • 3). Travel to India. While it may sound unrealistic, the very best way to learn Tibetan prayers is to study them from the source. Ashtanga yoga originated in India, and Jivamukti yoga is a branch of Ashtanga, both of which involve Tibetan prayers. You may also attend the teachings of the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India. At the teachings, you will learn the prayers.

    • 4). Study Sanskrit online. You can find recorded samples of people chanting Tibetan prayers to learn the correct intonation and pronunciation. Listen to the prayers and repeat after the speaker. In this way, you can learn Tibetan prayers phonetically or one word at a time.

    • 5). Buy Buddhist prayer books. A good place to begin to understand Tibetan prayers is through the yoga sutras of Patanjali or the Tibetan Book of the Dead. Seeing the words you are attempting to pronounce will aid your understanding of the prayers.
