Virtual Field Trips

• Scholastic.com, publisher of "The Magic School Bus," offers a few activities for children to partake in via Internet connection. One such activity, the Virtual Field Trip, allows children from all around the globe to participate in a group trip without ever leaving the classroom. Entire classes, or small groups of homeschooled children, can come together for free on Scholastic's website (see Resources) to watch live streaming video of the illustrator and author taking them on a virtual tour of an educational facility. These events don't occur very often, but they do happen with enough frequency that teachers and parents should keep an eye out in order to participate.
  
  

Games

• Scholastic's website also offers students the chance to test their science skills via a variety of games. Students can try the "science experiment of the week" by virtually mixing chemicals to create a reaction, help Ms. Frizzle gather facts about dinosaurs or play flash-based games about the weather and its properties, space and insects. Students can also test their knowledge with the website's section on "pop quizzes."
  
  

Non-Computer Activities

• Scholastic's Magic School Bus site also offers students the chance to take their resources offline. For example, the website offers students a variety of coloring book pages that can be printed for later use. In addition, Scholastic helps children plan a Magic School Bus themed party by supplying them with downloadable invitations, activity suggestions and coloring sheets to distribute to party guests (see Resources).
