Florida Youth Grants
- The Florida American Legion's Children and Youth Fund awards grants to nonprofit organizations in Florida. The fund supports new and established programs that focus on the emotional, mental and physical welfare of the state's children. The one-year, non-renewable grants are for periods that run from Aug. 1 to July 31. Grant amounts range from $500 to $30,000. The American Legion funds only those programs that directly benefit Florida's children and does not fund operating expenses, construction projects, personnel expenses or consultants. - Florida's Division of Cultural Affairs provides General Program Support grants to organizations involved in creating and presenting cultural and educational programs for various audiences, including youths. Eligible applicants include Florida nonprofit organizations and local government agencies. Grant awards range from $20,000 to $100,000. Funds may not be used for overhead expenses. Applications are due by June 1. The project year runs from July 1 to June 30. The Division of Cultural Affairs provides application forms and instructions on its website.
- The Community Foundation of Broward offers grants to nonprofit organizations working in Broward County in Florida. The foundation supports programs that help former foster youths as they leave the foster care system and transition to independence. Other interests include programs that help children and families in areas such as parenting classes, nutrition, homelessness and substance abuse. The foundation does not award grants to individuals or to support religious programs, operating expenses or capital campaigns. The average grant award is $10,000. The foundation reviews proposals and makes recommendations four times a year. The foundation provides on its website proposal guidelines and a manual for using the online application system.
- The Sun Sentinel, a daily newspaper in Ft. Lauderdale, operates the Sun-Sentinel Children's Fund. The fund awards grants three times a year to nonprofit organizations working with children and families in South Florida, including Broward and Palm Beach counties. Grants support basic human needs, family support services, and education and literacy. The fund provides a downloadable grant application and instructions on its website.
