    Remove Wax

    • Before applying new wax, make sure any previously applied layers have been removed. Purchase a wax stripper solution from any area hardware or home repair store. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for diluting the wax stripper. Always use gloves when working with a wax stripper to avoid irritating your skin. Start in the corner of room and work your way toward the doorway. Apply to an area of your floor and let it sit according to the timeline provided in the manufacturer's instructions. Then scrub the area by hand or with a floor machine until all previously applied wax residue has disappeared. Be sure to throw away all rags used to soak up any extra wax stripper solution.

    Apply Wax

    • Apply a thin coat of wax to the floor, starting in the corner of the room. Use the mop head to spread the wax over the applied area. Keep applying wax over areas of the room, making sure not to miss spots. After completely applying a wax layer to the floor, let the area dry for 45 minutes. You will need to repeat the steps and add two more layers of wax. Remember to wait at least 45 minutes for the floor to dry in between applications. Furniture should be returned to the room only after the floor has completely dried. Buffing or polishing the floor in between waxes can help to maintain shine. You can either purchase or rent a buffer for use.
