How to Get a Possum Out of a Garage
- 1). Inspect the area carefully. If the possum is a mother and has young in the garage, call for animal control to take care of it. While trapping a single possum is a straightforward task, retrieving all the young is more challenging.
- 2). Make a large stack of something the possum can climb in the garage. Some options include old tires or stacks of books.
- 3). Lean a large plastic garbage can at a 45-degree angle on the climbing material.
- 4). Dump a can of wet cat food into the bottom of the trash can. You may also substitute very ripe fruit for the cat food.
- 5). Wait for the possum to climb into the trash can. The possum can climb into the trash can but not out due to the slick sides.
- 6). Move the trash can outside to a location with some cover.
- 7). Tip the trash can on its side and wait for the possum to run out. The possum may wait for dusk before venturing out.
