Draft Beer System: Storing And Handling Beer Safely And Efficiently

101 8
A draft beer system provides a method for clean, efficient handling of keg beer in commercial locations. A draft beer system is most likely to be found in a bar, but smaller units are installed in homes as well. The goal is to preserve the freshness and flavor of beer until it reaches the consumers at the bar, without requiring excessive manual handling or leading to accidental warming, which could affect the taste and quality of the beverage.

Storage at the right temperature

Bar managers know that draft beer is cheaper and tastier than bottled beer. The only drawback is that draft beer must be kept at the appropriate temperature. Too warm and it becomes annoyingly frothy, too cold and it loses its fresh flavor. Helping maintain the right temperatures is the goal of the commercial draft beer system.

Refrigeration is part of the beer storage system. Even if you have the best refrigeration system, you still are to deal with the problem of how to get the beer out to the customer. "Pouring yourself one" directly from the keg is messy and unhygienic, if there are too many people jostling for the privilege. The solution? Install a first-class draft beer dispenser.

Distribution of the beverage

While beer lines will transport the beverage from the storage to the bar, you will need a point of distribution. Beer towers are usually installed at this point, to enable efficient, spill free allocation. Even if the beer does spill, things do not go out of control because the fluid is caught on drip trays. There are simple drip trays that catch the spill, and there are elaborate trays with drains. There are drip trays that snugly fit around the beer tower, and trays with glass rinsers. You could even mount the drip tray on the wall, if needed.

Like drip trays, towers are available in different shapes, sizes, and with varied set of features. Towers combine beauty with utility. The size of the tower and specifics, such as capacity and number of taps, depend on the size of the bar. You could buy a tower with just one tap or invest in a large tower with seven taps. As many of the towers facilitate self service, it reduces the manpower needed to operate the bar.

Besides the size of the tower and drain systems, you will also need a system to keep beer cool when it is in the beer line and inside the beer tower. Glycol decks are designed for the purpose of keeping beer cool, and glycol is also considered relatively safe for food storage systems. Glycol is transferred through the glycol line, running parallel to the beer line. This ensures that the beer that is outside the storage system remains cool. The entire draft beer system is designed to offer flawless storage, transfer, and dispensing of beer.
