Granite countertops have become one of the popular kitchen trends of the 21 century, partly due to the fact that its beauty and strength will last a lifetime.
Granite makes an excellent addition to any kitchen, adding color and depth.
The cost of installing granite countertops may be somewhat expensive, but making this investment will improve the overall value of your home while adding lasting beauty.
For premium granite worktops you will have to fork out between $60 and $120 per square foot.
At this price some suppliers may also perform the installation of your granite countertop at no additional cost.
You can also find discounted granite at around $30 per square foot, but this does not include installation.
Premium granite cost has more to do with the cost of installation and delivery than the actual quality of the stone.
Because of the unregulated nature of the granite industry, quarries as well as suppliers all determine their own pricing system.
Prices are also demand driven.
When installing granite countertops your dealer may charge in excess of 50% on base price to perform the installation.
Granite countertop suppliers categorize the products they offer in four tiers.
The first one is the most expensive, as this is premium quality granite.
The stones are grouped based on several factors, including: •Country of origin - this will play a large part in the cost of the product as shipping and duties will add to the end cost •Color - based on the popularity of the color, the product will cost more or less •Patterns - suppliers also use this also to determine the cost •Thickness of slab - thicker slabs cost more •Fashion trend - this can work both ways These are just a few areas that suppliers use to determine the cost of your countertop.
Granite that is graded in a lower tier does not mean that the product is of a lower quality.
In fact the product looks just the same as products that are graded in the first tier.
You may even find that stones in a lower tier are harder when compared to higher tiers.
Shopping around is a good way to find quality.
Commercial grade granite is the same as lower tier granite.
The reason for this rating is usually dependent on the pits that were filled in.
If you decide to use a softer grade of granite, then additional cabinet supports are necessary.
These factors will also influence the cost of the final product.
Stones that are cut thinner may cost less.
During installation this type of granite countertop will require additional support, such as laminated plywood, as this will give the countertop greater stability.
If you decide to buy discounted granite countertops this is what the supplier will provide.
Installing granite countertops in the kitchen or any other area in the home will add beauty.
Remember to shop around to find a trustworthy supplier as well as installer who is willing to sit and discuss with you expenses as well as answer any questions you may have about the installation.
