Many technical jobs, such as medical and dental assisting, are growing, so students have the opportunity to enter lucrative career fields. - Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission-North Central Association, Wichita Area Technical College (WATC) offers certificate programs and associate degrees in several fields, such as aviation, business and technology, health sciences, manufacturing, design and transportation. WATC also offers online courses. Students who choose to study aviation---the institution's most popular choice---can earn an associate degree, a technical certificate or a certificate of completion. Programs vary in length. An aerospace technical certificate, for instance, requires 24 credit hours. Students who choose to study manufacturing can study other technical fields, such as welding, manufacturing technology and air conditioning technology.

Accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, WTI offers the following technical programs for its students: medical assistant, medical insurance billing and coding specialist, integrated electronics technology, integrated computer and electronics technology, computer technology and network administration, and heat, air conditioning and refrigeration technology. The school says that it provides help in students' job searches and building communication skills. Financial help, in the form of grants and loans, is available for qualifying students. WTI has two campuses in Wichita.

After completing 49 weeks of full-time training, students can become licensed barber stylists. The program consists of 1,500 hours of training, which includes 350 hours of lecture classes, 1,000 hours of practical work and 150 hours in shop management training. The institute also has a reduced-rate salon, open to the public, for students to practice their skills.
