How to Paint Several Doors Fast
- 1). Remove the doors from their hinges with a screwdriver. Take off other hardware and doorknobs.
- 2). Set up a large work area with drop cloths on the floor. Arrange pairs of sawhorses on which to rest each door. Leave enough space to maneuver comfortably. Place the doors on the sawhorses, making sure they are stable.
- 3). Select a primer depending on the surface of the doors. Use a tinted shellac-based primer for raw wood or metal doors. Latex primer is appropriate for other types of doors.
- 4). Apply primer with a paint roller. Use a wide brush to smooth out the primer as necessary. Be sure to prime the sides of the door. It is not necessary to prime the top and bottom edges of the door, unless they will be visible from a stairwell, landing or loft. Once dry, turn the doors over and prime the other side.
- 5). Roll the paint on all the doors using a paint roller. Go over rolled areas with a wide brush. Smooth out the paint following the direction of the wood grain.
- 6). Begin the second coat of paint on the first door you painted. On a warm, dry day, latex paint will dry in as little as 30 minutes. Apply enough paint to achieve full coverage with the second coat. Look out for drips along the edges of the door. Allow the doors to dry before painting the other side.
- 7). Flip the doors over, placing a cushion of rags on each sawhorse to protect the freshly painted surface of the doors. Roll and brush two coats of paint. Allow the doors to dry.
- 8). Replace the hardware and doorknobs. Reattach the doors to the door frames.
