How to Change "Alert Me" Being Grayed Out in Security Center
- 1). Log into the computer using an account with administrator access. You might not be able to change Security Center if you do not have administrator rights.
- 2). Click the "Start" button to launch the Start menu.
- 3). Click "Run" from the Start menu.
- 4). Type "Services.msc" in the text box and press the "Enter" key on the keyboard. This will launch the Services menu.
- 5). Scroll down until you find "Security Center" in the left pane.
- 6). Right-click on "Security Center" and choose "Properties" from the drop-down menu.
- 7). Choose "Automatic" from the "Startup Type" drop-down menu, then click "OK." This will ensure the Security Center runs automatically on startup. If the program is not running, you will not be able to change the settings and the settings options will be grayed out.
- 8). Click the "Start" link in the top-left corner to launch the Security Center service. You can now return to the Security Center dashboard and click "Change the way Security Center alerts me" to make the changes.
