Over the past few years, with new airlines popping up on a regular basis, the big fishes in the pond are facing new competition every day to both retain their customer base and entice new or potential customers from their competitors.
To do so the airlines have been creating new ways, one of them is to award their customers for their loyalty to their airline where the customer gets awarded for the travelling with the airline or known as "Frequent flyer miles", and with good reason.
The Frequent flyer miles of the customers are linked to the credit/ debit cards of the customers and the miles accumulated are being recorded, the more the customer travels with a particular airline the greater will be the benefit as those frequent flyer miles keep on increasing with each flight.
But it's also important to arm yourself with the best information before looking to take advantage of the opportunities being presented by the airlines, just browse through the following list of some necessities to help make you a better decision: • Business class versus economy class: The airlines have different classes cater to their customers and they also give different benefits to the different customers, generally those who travel on business as opposed to the economy class of the airline will accumulate greater credit for the miles travelled.
Hotels: A few chain hotels allow you to transfer hotel points to flyer miles or vice versa, and some even let you choose an airline miles instead of hotel points when you stay.
Co-branded hotel credit cards also commonly offer bonuses in the way of free nights every year or free elite status.
A keen eye for the deals: You need to stay on the lookout for attractive deals being offered by the various airlines for the frequent flyer miles as new competitors are entering the market and looking to snatch the share of other competitors.
The awards being offered: Generally the airlines not only offer free tickets when a certain number of frequent flyer miles have been accumulated, they also offer souvenirs, discounts on tickets, upgrades to the seats purchased etc.
It's important to do the math before deciding what award you want to avail; generally the discounts on tickets is the most beneficial.
Mode of purchase of ticket: Generally the airlines are in a partnership with a certain credit/ debit Card Company, where they look to give benefits to the loyal customers of that company over others.
In case you have the credit/ debit cards from more than one company it will always pay off to ensure you make the purchase from the right card.
Award versus comfort: When deciding upon which airline to travel based on the benefits being offered for the frequent flyer miles it is important to analyze that the benefit doesn't fade in comparison to the comfort being offered by another airline.
By putting yourself through an ordeal just to get a greater discount on your next flight might not be worth it.
Hopefully with the above information now you can decide better before putting your money, time and the miles with an airline.
