How to Make a Cincher Dress
- 1). Visit your local fabric retailer and purchase a corset dress pattern, grommets, ribbon and the fabric you wish to use for your dress.
- 2). Lay the fabric on a flat surface and place the pattern on top of the fabric. Pin the pattern into place with sewing pins.
- 3). Cut around the pattern with sewing scissors. Remove the pins from the fabric and place the pattern to one side. Place the piece of fabric that will constitute the top of the dress to one side and place the two pieces of fabric that will constitute the skirt of the dress in front of you.
- 4). Place one piece of the skirt fabric on top of the other. The fabric that you wish to be on the outside of the dress should be facing inwards.
- 5). Pin the side seams of the skirt together with sewing pins.
- 6). Fold over the fabric allocated for the hem of the dress and pin into place with sewing pins.
- 7). Sew along the side seams and around the hem of the skirt with your sewing machine.
- 8). Place the skirt to one side and lay the fabric for the top of the dress in front of you.
- 9). Fold over the fabric allocated for the hem on the right and left edge of your piece of fabric and pin down with sewing pins. These edges will eventually constitute the back of the dress.

Fold over the fabric allocated for the neckline of the dress and pin down with sewing pins. - 11
Sew along the right and left edge of the top of the dress with your sewing machine. Sew along the neckline of the dress with your sewing machine. - 12
Place your skirt in front of you, front side up, and lay the top of the dress flat across the top of the skirt. The material should be overlapping by about 1/4 of an inch. Pin the top of the dress to the bottom of the dress on the front side only. - 13
Sew the top of the dress to the bottom of the dress on the front side only with your sewing machine. - 14
Turn your dress right side out and place in front of you with the back of the dress facing up. - 15
Punch six holes evenly along the two edges that will be laced together to form the waist cincher. - 16
Attach grommets to the holes using the specific instructions provided in the grommets packaging. - 17
Cut a piece of ribbon approximately 20 inches long; this will vary depending on the size of your waist. Lace the corset string through the grommets in a pattern of your choice. - 18
Try your dress on.
