How to Make Soda Pop - The Easy Way and the Hard Way

Contrary to what the big name soda makers want you to think, it is actually very easy to learn how to make soda pop.
Making your own soda at home can be a fun activity for your family and a money saver for your budget.
In this article I will teach you two ways for how to make soda pop.
First the hard way.
Well, it is actually not that hard, just a little time consuming.
I will tell you the basic process.
You can find detailed recipes elsewhere on the internet.
The basic process is as follows: First, sprinkle a packet of yeast into some warm, but not hot water.
Let the yeast sit for a few minutes in the warm water until it starts to bubble a little bit.
This yeast will eventually be used to carbonate your soda pop.
Next, you will need to prepare your bottle of water.
This involves dissolving a cup or so of sugar in the water and then adding your choice of flavoring.
Some people prefer to boil the mixture in order to quickly dissolve the sugar.
But it is important to let everything cool down to room temperature before going on to the next step.
Finally, add the yeast, seal the bottle, and wait a few days.
Here is where the magic happens.
The yeast will feed on the sugar and produce carbon dioxide (and a little alcohol) as a byproduct.
This carbon dioxide will build up inside the bottle until the soda turns fizzy.
Be careful though.
Check the bottle after a few days and release some of the pressure, otherwise the top might explode off and create a sticky mess.
Your soda should be ready to chill and drink after 2-3 days.
That was the hard way.
I used that method for a few years but eventually switched to a soda maker machine.
Now, I think this is the easiest and fasted way for how to make soda pop at home.
There are a number of soda maker machines on the market.
All of them work in the same way.
They include a refillable CO2 canister, the machine itself, and a reusable soda bottle.
The main advantage of a soda maker machine is that it reduces the whole process above down to a few seconds.
The first step is to fill up the soda bottle with tap water.
Next, you insert the bottle in the machine and press the big button on top a few times.
This will inject carbonation into the soda bottle and make it nice and fizzy.
Finally, you remove the bottle and add your own flavoring.
Or you can leave out the flavoring and just drink it as plain seltzer water.
I learned how to make soda pop both ways.
I love the natural chemistry of the first method.
If you put in enough sugar and let it sit long enough, the soda pop can actually turn quite alcoholic over time.
But in terms of everyday use and with the volume of soda that I like to drink, the second method makes much more sense for my household.
We've also found that we save money and produce much less in terms of plastic bottle waste ever sense we switched to the soda maker machine method.
