Caring For Your Pine Furniture
As with any type of natural wood furniture, if you want your new furniture to stay looking good, you are going to have to take very good care of it.
Unlike many veneered furnishings that only require being wiped down with a damp cloth, it takes a little more work to keep real wood furniture in good condition.
With this in mind, if you want your beautiful pine furniture to stay looking its best, you need to learn how to give it the care and attention that natural pine deserves.
How you take care of it, depends on what type of finish has been applied to the wood, how old it is and what condition it is in.
In most cases you can use a simple clean, damp cloth to wipe your furniture clean.
At no time should you ever consider using any type of soap or commercial cleaning product as these will damage the finish and stain the pine.
Instead most manufacturers of pine furniture recommend that you use a block of scent free wax and a soft cloth.
Rubbing the wax thoroughly overall exposed surfaces according to the manufacturer's instructions and then you should leave it to soak into the wood until it can be buffed off leaving behind a fresh shine.
You should never use any other form of cleaner on natural pine including any type of spray polish, especially those that contain silicone.
Since pine furniture is in a continuous state of breathing and drying, you do not want to use any type of cleaning product that is going to block the "pores" of the wood as this can cause excessive cracking.
While a small amount of cracking is natural and adds character to your furniture, large crack are not only unappealing to look at, they can cause damage and reduce the structural integrity of your furniture.
