What Are Bluetooth Profiles?
- A Bluetooth profile is a specification that determines Bluetooth-based communication between more than one device. One example would be stereo audio streaming capabilities over a Bluetooth connection from one device to another.
- Bluetooth profiles determine an individual Bluetooth's technological capabilities and functions. The profile defines manufacturer's standards set for that particular Bluetooth, and includes such details as dependencies on other Bluetooth-compatible formats, suggested formats for user interface and specifics of that Bluetooth's protocol stack, or software implementation of computer networking protocols. Each layer of a Bluetooth's protocol stack includes specific application options and restrictions.
- The Headset Profile, or HSP, is considered one of the most universal Bluetooth applications, and was first used in 1998.
