How to Shorten a Long Car Ride With Road Games
- 1). Add a tune to the journey. One person chooses any word that comes to mind and the next person (clockwise or counter clockwise) must name a tune with that word in it. Once he/she has done so, the next person in the car must come up with another song with that same word in it. This continues until someone cannot think of any more songs with that word. The last person to have named a tune with that particular word in it wins the round. Everyone in the car should have a turn at choosing the word to find songs that play it. This game can be stopped and started as many times as you would like along the way. This game may also be played in teams as well. The person or team with the most points when the game ends wins.
- 2). Try "I see something..." One individual starts by spotting an object, person or animal and begins to describe it by giving the rest of the travelers clues. Once the item or being has been identified, that person continues the game by saying, "I see something..." and also provides clues as to what he or she has spotted. The person in the vehicle with the most number of correct guesses wins the game.
- 3). Try "How many things beginning with A (B,C,D etc) can you find within a mile or any other designated distance. The driver participates to the extent of announcing the start of the mile and indicating stop when the designated distance has been reached. This game can go on for 26 rounds, which is equivalent to the number of letters in the alphabet. Scoring can be done by the individual letter and who has seen the most items or individuals. Or, scoring can be done based on the number of rounds won out of 26.
- 4). Try the "Add to the Story Game." This is a memory tester. One individual starts the game with a silly sentence. For example, "I went to Alabama with a __________" and passes it to the next player. The next player fills in the blank with a word that begins with the next letter of the alphabet. So, it might look something like this: "I went to Alabama with a bobcat in the ___________." The next person would need to fill in the blank with a word beginning with the letter C, and so on and so on.
