Components of an IBM Thinkpad 600E Laptop
- Thinkpad IBM laptops were introduced in 1992 as a line of corporate laptops. The line became one of the biggest successes and continues even now, even after the purchase of IBM's personal computer division by Lenovi. The Thinkpad 600E was released in 1998 as part of the Thinkpad 600 series, and became a huge success. Although outdated by today's standards, it is still in use by some who don't need to carry out demanding high-performance tasks on a computer and primarily just need it to surf the Internet, listen to music and watch videos.
- As per the Thinkpad Specification Reference, the 600E features an Intel Pentium II processor with clock speed options of 300, 366 and 400 MHz, running on an Intel 440BX chipset motherboard with a data bus speed of 66 MHz and 512 KB of L2 cache featuring pipeline burst.
- By default, the 600E comes with 64 MB of non-ECC SD-RAM in the form of two 32MB 144-pin SO DIMMs, one of which is soldered and the other of which is removable. The maximum supported RAM is 288MB if the removable DIMM is replaced with a 256 MB one.
- The 600E features an IDE hard disk controller and the default storage options include a 5.1 GB or 6.4 GB drive. For removable storage, there is a 1.44MB 3.5-inch floppy drive in the form of a plug-in module. For optical discs, a CD-ROM drive with 24x read speed is included as a removable plug-in module, allowing for swapping with other supported peripherals such as a second hard drive.
- The 600E uses an integrated 13.3-inch TFT Active Matrix LCD display with a maximum screen resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels, while resolutions of 800 by 600 pixels and 640 by 480 pixels are also supported. Maximum color support is 24-bit, to display up to 16.7 million different colors.
- There is a dedicated NeoMagic NM2160B PCI AGP graphics card with 2 MB of SGRAM for its graphics memory, supporting VGA, XGA and SVGA resolutions.
- For audio output, the 600E features a Creative Sound Blaster 16/Pro. A microphone is also integrated into the machine for sound input.
- An X2 modem supporting up to 56.6 kbps is built in. There is also an infrared port for wireless data transfer with supported devices. No LAN card is included by default. However, the PCMCIA card slot can be used to plug one in.
