SIDEWAY SHOT. This is probably the oldest trick in the book - turning sideways in a photo. There are two ways that you can pull off a sideways photo. The first trick is to turn away from the camera so your facing to the side. Look at the camera from over your shoulder. (Make sure it's your good side!) This takes the attention away from your body and more to your face. The ADVANCED trick to a sideways pose is to turn slightly to the side - one foot in front of the other. Point your toe towards the camera and put your weight on your back foot. It may take some practice, but you'll get the hang of it. Hey, that's what the self-timer is for, right?

DON'T HAVE AWKWARD HANDS. This is another reason a lot of people take terrible pictures - they don't know what do with their arms and hands. You should always remember to hold your arms slightly away from your body. Why? Because it gets extra flab from flattening out in pictures (which might add pounds - according to yourself.) It's alike like when you sit down and think your thighs are way bigger than they should be. Your arms can have the same effect. Another thing to keep in mind is to keep from having idle hands in a picture. Hold a purse, drink, or just keep your hands away from the focal point in pictures. Awkward hands will draw attention to where ever they are in the picture - which always happens to be at the waist.

GOOD POSTURE. Yes, it's true what your grammy says, good posture will only do your favors in the long run. Pull your shoulders back, and GENTLY suck your stomach in. (Not so much that anyone could tell your in pain and can't breathe) but just enough to knock the edge off of your tummy.

LOOK AWAY TRICK. Another great way to get amazing pictures is the "look away trick". To accomplish this trick you simply look away from the camera and then turn towards it - just breaking a smile as you turn and the camera clicks. Your smile and face will appear fresh and not frozen solid. This trick may take a little bit of practice in the mirror before getting it down correctly. Try doing it with a self timer. (Of course, locked in your room so no one will walk in.)

NEVER TAKE A PICTURE ANGLED FROM BELOW. When the photographer snaps a shot that is below you - up towards you, it instantly adds 5 to 10lbs on you. When someone takes a picture from below it gives the optical illusion that your body and face are bigger because the lens is reaching towards you. Try to always take pictures with the lens at least at face level or above.
