How to Make a 3D Keychain
- 1). Cut your satin cord with the scissors. It should be around 7 feet long. Fold the string in half and drape the middle over the keyring or lanyard hook. Bring the ends up through the loop to create a half hitch, connecting it to the keyring. You will have two strands of satin cord hanging from it evenly.
- 2). Slide beads onto one end of the cord according to your bead pattern that you are designing. Feed the other end of the satin cord through the other end of the row of beads. Each cord will be pulled through the beads in opposite directions. Pull both cords to tighten your row of beads, bringing it up in a horizontal position.
- 3). String your next row of beads on one end of the satin cord. Feed the second strand through the opposite end of the beads in the next row to create a second horizontal row. Continue feeding the beads onto one cord and then sliding the second strand through to complete the rows according to your pattern or desired design. It will look like a flat design at first, consisting of horizontal rows of beads. Each row may have a different number of beads depending on what kind of character you are creating. This creates the main body shape.
- 4). Tie a knot in the ends of the strands of your last row to hold your rows of beads in place. This completes the body section of your keychain.
- 5). Slide a short strand through the top row of beads on your keychain project. Slide on beads as you did to create the main body of your 3D design. This will create a 3D layer to your project, which will be a face or a head. It will be on top of the body you created. Loop through a strand of satin cord on the sides to create arms and legs with a single row of beads. Tie a knot in the ends. Add a piece to the backside of your project to create a tail using the same stringing technique. This creates the 3D effect for your keychain.
