Wrapping It Up

Despite the constant sassy gripes I’ve written, or the constant criticisms on fan forums everywhere that have been posted about the show, WE NEVER WANTED OUR SHOW CANCELLED! The decision to do so sparks some questions about the business sense involved in the Mighty Office. Why exactly would a corporation decide to cancel a five-decade strong franchise? It couldn’t be that the ratings have dropped, or that viewership has dropped, because there wouldn’t be so many comments being made on these forums if people weren’t still VIEWING THE SHOW!

It’s a funny thing that we viewers have called “loving to hate” our show. We complain, we marvel, we threaten to stop watching, but…WE NEVER LEAVE THE SHOW! Does any one of those heads ever USE their head and realize that soaps are a long-lasting desire for most of the world?

It’s our escape from harsh realities into fantasy, our chance to be involved with rich and famous moguls, see our favorite guest singers perform, and have a good laugh, cry or scream from the comforts of our living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms while taking one hour of our busy days without interrupting our family time. It’s something to talk about in supermarkets, Laundromats, schoolyards, doctors’ waiting rooms and parks with fellow viewers. We are under the constant blanket of military threats, cancer scares, health alerts and much more negative realities. Soaps help us pretend for a little while that life is exciting and fun. Why would you replace them with yet ANOTHER food show, health show or BEWARE show? Get over your fears of not making the storyline writing grade and write better storylines with the abundance of great talents that you have right at your fingertips.

Stop copping out to hide your failures and just give us the great Llanview we viewers are used to.
