How to Upgrade a Power Mac G3 to a G4
- 1). Unplug all of the cables from the Power Mac G3. Rotate the Power Mac G3 so that the side panel which has the Apple logo is facing you. Place a bath towel on the floor against the side panel.
- 2). Lift up on the locking latch that is above the Apple logo. Pull the side panel down and onto the bath towel.
- 3). Locate the G3 processor that is on the right side of the side panel--the G3 processor has a rectangular shape with a metal grooved plate on its top.
- 4). Pull the G3 processor out of the slot it is in with a quick, upward motion. Place the G3 processor aside.
- 5). Remove the G4 processor from its protective bag. Hold the G4 processor with the connecting pins facing down. Rotate the G4 processor in your hands so that it is in the same position as that of the G3 processor when it was pulled out.
- 6). Insert the G4 processor into the slot on the side panel. Push the G4 processor down until it clicks into position inside of the slot.
- 7). Pull the side panel up and back onto the Power Mac G3. Push the locking latch down until it clicks into position on the side panel.
- 8). Remove the bath towel. Rotate the Power Mac G3 back to its original position. Reattach the cables.
