    • 1). Study the prospective employer's business model. Determine what kind of clientele the business generally caters to. A strict professional atmosphere may call for a more conservative appearance, while a more “trendy” business may allow for or encourage casual dress.

    • 2). Observe the employees working at the business. Note any commonalities present in how the current employees dress while picking up an employment application or touring the business.

    • 3). Call the human resources department and explain to the company representative that you are scheduled for an interview for the receptionist position. Ask the company representative if there are any specific dress code requirements.

    • 4). Exercise proper hygiene and grooming practices before the interview. Get your hair styled or cut to further enhance your appearance. Consider purchasing a new outfit that best conforms to the company's dress code.

    • 5). Avoid wearing excessive amounts of makeup, cologne or perfume. Maintain a pleasant disposition while waiting to be interviewed and during the interview process.
